fishing tacke
Rancho serra do cachimbo
how it works
The trairão is an aggressive fish, very strong and capable of reaching one meter in length and weighing about 30 pounds.
This is a species that does not accept provocation and explosively attacks in a wide variety of fishing lures.
Bait casting
Rods: a 6 to 7 foot, fast action and medium/heavy or heavy power rod.
For greater convenience and economy, an excellent alternative are the travel rods with the characteristics already mentioned.
Reels: a low-profile model with a 110 yards of 50 lb braided line.
Lines and Leaders: Since the animal is strong, the line can be braided from 40 to 65 lbs with a fluorocarbon leader of 45 to 70 lb.
Don’t forget to tie a steel wire with a minimum of 30lbs of strength.
Lures: Trairão attacks in a wide variety of baits. They can be walking-the-dogs, stickbaits, poppers, propellers, crankbaits, jerkbaits (short or long bill) and lipless crank, within a size between 8 and 14 cm.
The trairão is bad at aiming and misses some attacks on lures. Currently, there are surface models that create a huge disturbance on the surface and work in a straight line, such as the Whoopler Plopper and noyse-type baits such as Jackall Pompadour, which have incredible productivity in this fishery.
In addition, two models stand out when the species are deeper: spinnerbait and chatterbait. When buying, remember that they must be reinforced and with a good size hook.
For days when the predator is trickier or when the sun gets hotter and the fish goes to the bottom, the tip is to use soft baits. Creatures, craws, tubes, worms, shads, soft jerkbaits from 4 to 6 inches are most recommended. These artificials can be mounted on jig heads, Texas Rig, Carolina Rig, among other setups. Use 5/0 to 8/0 EWG hooks, 3/8oz to 1 oz weights.
Fly fishing
Choose 9 feet number 8, 9 or 10 rods. To form the set, the large arbor reel should preferably have 100m of 20 lb backing plus the fly line, which can be floating, intermediate or even sinking.
The 5 to 7 foot leaders can be made with nylon or fluorocarbon and at the end a 30 lb (or more) steel wire measuring approximately 8 inches.
Flies: to hook a trairão, a noisy popper and slowly worked, a slider or gurgle are very interesting. However, if you intend to hook a large specimen, use large and bulky streamers tied to hooks with numbers 2/0 to 4/0.
It is interesting to weighted the streamers (using lead), as they are hardly able to swim at the depth necessary to attract the predator if it is in a place more than one meter deep, even in slow water situations. Also prefer flies with weed guard because of the structures.
Other stuff:
– Fishing license
– Shirts and T-shirts with technology developed for fishing or outdoor sports
– Appropriate pants or shorts
– Cap
– Raincoat
– Sunglasses
– Buff
– Shoes suitable for the type of fishing
– Spare material (rod, reels or reels, line, hooks, etc.)
-fish gripper , cutting pliers, nose pliers, super glue line and lighter.
-small flashlight
-Insect Repellent. The region has few mosquitoes that bite and bother, and it is possible to fish all day in shorts and a t-shirt. It’s only at the end of the day that the presence of these insects becomes a nuisance – that’s when a good repellent solves the problem.
